An All Progressives Congress (APC) leader in Bauchi State, Shehu Sanin-Malam has warned politicians from other Northern regions of the country to stop targeting the vice presidential position currently occupied by Senator Kassim Shettima ahead of  2027.

He claimed that there is a plot to cause a rift between President Bola Tinubu and Shettima in a bid to claim the vice president position.

Reports making the rounds indicate that some APC heavyweights, from the North West political region, are plotting on getting the seat of President Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Shettima is from Borno State in the North East geo-political zone.

But Sanin-Malam, in an interview with LEADERSHIP, said the North East was pacified to accept the  vice presidency because of its loyalty to the APC and its support for President Bola Tinubu.

He described the agitations and scheming for the number two position as an unacceptable deliberate attempt to sideline the North East which has suffered neglect for years.

The APC chieftain said, “In the height of the Boko Haram insurgency, other parts of the country treated the issue negligibly because it was not their corridor. They deserted and avoided coming to the Northeast for anything.

“Later, the North East was given the position of vice president of the country in APC although we had wanted to be given a presidential ticket. We were pacified to accept the vice president and we did.

“However, some people from another part of the country, at the moment, are making efforts to cause friction between President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima to enable them to get the seat of the vice president in 2027.

“If they want to get this country divided, they should follow the appropriate process to do it peacefully,” Sanin-Malam warned.

He reaffirmed the support of the northeast to President Tinubu and  Vice President Shettima, adding that “Shettima is our son.”
