The group, Mobilisation, Awareness and Development (MAD) Tinubu support group has criticised a former Rivers State governor and ADC vice Presidential candidate,Rotimi Ameachi over a reported comment that only “mad people” would vote for the President, describing the remark as unnecessary and unhelpful to political discourse.
The convener of the movement, Catherine Kyamwan, stated this at a press conference in Abuja on Friday.
He said political disagreements should be addressed through constructive engagement rather than insults and name-calling.
Kyamwan said the group recognised the importance of Tinubu’s policy initiatives and national development priorities, including economic reforms, infrastructure, agriculture, energy and human capital development.
She said these issues deserved objective public discussion rather than personal attacks.
“Our movement recognises the importance of the policy initiatives and national development priorities introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“From economic reforms and infrastructure development to agriculture, energy, human capital development and opportunities for young Nigerians, these are important areas of national conversation that deserve informed public engagement,” she said.
The group said it had taken note of the reported statement attributed to the former governor suggesting that only mad people would support Tinubu’s re-election.
Kyamwan, however, said the movement would not respond to the comment with personal attacks.
“We consider the use of mental-health-related language as a political insult unfortunate and unnecessary.
“However, we will not respond with personal attacks or name-calling,” she added.
She said the group had adopted a positive interpretation of its acronym, MAD, describing it as a commitment to education, development, national unity and opportunities for young Nigerians.
“There is nothing wrong with being MAD about education, MAD about development, MAD about national unity, MAD about opportunities for young people and MAD about a better future for Nigeria.
“That is the positive meaning we attach to MAD: passion for constructive national engagement,” she said.
Kyamwan added that the movement would continue to promote peaceful civic participation, community development and inclusive conversations.
She also called for greater participation of women and young people in national affairs, alongside respectful collaboration and accountability.
Also speaking, the South-South Coordinator of the movement, Engr Obi Romanus, disclosed that the group had attracted more than 20,000 registered and active online members.
He said the movementis seeking to expand its membership ahead of the 2027 general election.
“We have online members, with over 20,000 registered and active members, and we are looking for more people to join us.
“The March for Tinubu Movement has come to stay. We are looking for more people who are interested in national development and increased participation in the Bola Ahmed Tinubu government and administration,” Romanus said.
