President of the association, Ofoine Ngbede, said the children support their parents using their one month pension to purchase the governorship nomination forms.

He justified the decision to buy form for the governor, declaring that previous administration failed to look seriously into their welfare.

Recall that the governorship form of APC which Alia belongs to, was sold for N50 million in 2023.

However, Ngbede, during the State Council meeting of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) in Makurdi the state capital, said they were solidly behind their parents’ desire to  support and affirm the governor’s re-election with a promise to contribute financially and otherwise.

According to Ofoine, “Through the intervention of the governor, our parents who were once declared dead by previous administrations, are now alive healthy and sound with the free  medications announced recently, we are going to contribute our quota financially and as well canvass for support among all pensioners  children across the 23 LG to vote for the Governor come 2027″ he added.

The NUP in a communique also passed a vote of confidence on Governor Alia for taking into cognisance the plight of pensioners.

The communique which jointly was signed by the state chairman, Mike Vembeh; secretary,  Saater Bur; Austin Oteikwu for branch chairmen; Timothy Kparevfa for Ex officios; and Idu Godwin for branch secretaries, after an emergency meeting.

Rising from the meeting, they affirmed the decision of the State Executive Committee to purchase the 2027 governorship nomination forms for Alia.

The pensioners resolved that for the governor to make their issue a priority, they will stand solidly behind him and work hard to ensure his re-election in 2027.

The communique urged all pensioners in Benue State to keep praying fervently to God to continue to protect and guide Governor Alia to enable him take the state to greater heights of development.

Recall that the union in their recent outing promised to use their One Month Pension to purchase Governorship Nomination form for Governor Alia to contest again in 2027.

The chairman during the presentation of a letter of commendation to the chief medical director (CMD) Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) Makurdi Dr Stephen Hwande for commencing free medical services for pensioners in the State explained that the purchasing of the 2027 governorship form for the Governor is to thank him for bringing them to life.

Vembeh said, “We are going to purchase the governorship nomination form for Governor Alia for bringing us back to life after being pronounced by the previous administrations as dead people, we are happy but will be happier if the Governor is back come 2027”
