Women groups from the 25 local government areas of Niger State have asked a retired federal civil servant Dr Mohammed Kpautagi Mohammed to contest for the governorship seat of the state on the platform of African Democratic Congress (ADC) .
The women who were led by the Coalition for Women Campaign, Hajiya Aisha Mai Youth Suleja said they want Mohammed as governor in 2027 based on his experience.
Hajiya Aisha who led the women to pay a visit to Dr Gbautagi said their aim was for him to prepare and accept the clarion call to contest for governorship seat in the next general elections in the state.
She declared that the state needed a good and purposeful leader who will have the citizens at heart , empower the women, get rid of poverty, secure their lives , have empathy , imbibe inclusive spirit as well as be patriotic.
While assuring that they will massively mobilize the women towards 2027 governorship poll , Aisha Mai Youth described Kpautagi Mohammed as humble, sympathetic, hardworking and results oriented individual who has been passionate about the development and progress of Niger State.
In their separate remarks, the three women zonal coordinators of the movement, Hauwa Musa, Mrs Mary Ishaku Shashere and Sadiya Shehu Kontagora lamented over the suffering of the people.
Also speaking, the state coordinator of the movement and former House of Representatives member representing Lapai/Agaie federal constituency, Abdullahi Mahmoud thanked the women for their foresight in identifying Kpautagi for leadership position , saying that women have the highest number of voters during elections and determine outcome of polls.
Responding, Dr Mohammed Kpautagi Mohammed who stated that it is not yet time for campaign, assured them that when the time comes he will consider their request in the interest of the good of Niger State and Nigeria.
Mohammed noted that his priority has always been those at the grassroots as a way of propelling massive development and reducing rural-urban migration in the state.
