Not fewer than twenty-one (21) persons have been confirmed dead, following a fatal road crash that occurred early Sunday along the Zaria–Kano highway in Kano State.
According to a statement signed by the sector’s Public Education Officer, CRC Abdullahi Labaran, the accident happened at about 8:23 a.m. near Kasuwar Dogo, Dakatsalle.
The crash involved a Toyota Bus with registration number KMC 171 YM and a DAF trailer marked GWL 422 ZE.
Preliminary investigation by the FRSC rescue team, revealed that the collision was caused by a route violation by the bus driver, resulting in a head-on impact that triggered a fire outbreak which consumed both vehicles.
The statement disclosed that 24 people were involved in the crash, with 21 confirmed dead and three others sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
“The burnt bodies of the deceased were evacuated to Nassarawa Hospital Mortuary in Kano, while the injured victims were taken to Garun Malam General Hospital for medical attention,” the statement read.
“The road obstruction caused by the accident was successfully cleared by FRSC Rs1.2 Kano Tow Truck operatives in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, and normal traffic flow has since been restored,” it further stated.
The Sector Commander, Kano FRSC, Corps Commander MB Bature urged motorists to obey all traffic rules and avoid dangerous driving practices such as route violations and reckless overtaking.
Bature also expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
