About 2,180 Muslim faithful in Kwara State are to perform this year’s Hajj in the holy land of Saudi Arabia.
Of this figure, some 2,150 intending pilgrims have completed the payment for the Hajj fare, while about 30 others were yet to fully pay the fare as of the time of filing this report.
The executive secretary of the Kwara State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji AbdulSalam AbdulKadir, who confirmed that 2,150 intending pilgrims had made full payments for the 2015 Hajj, added that “fewer than 30 individuals were yet to complete their payments.”
He said the state’s intending pilgrims would be airlifted to Saudi Arabia by Max Air, beginning from mid-May 2025.
Abdulkadir announced that a formal enlightenment session featuring seasoned Islamic scholars would be held on Sunday at the board’s office in Ilorin, the state capital, to provide pilgrims with further guidelines.
Meanwhile, the state government has urged the intending pilgrims to be good ambassadors of the state while in the holy land.
The secretary to the state government, Prof. Mamman Saba Jibril, who gave the charge, reminded the pilgrims that the journey is a spiritual obligation, not a tourist expedition.
He spoke during a sensitisation programme and prayer session organised by the Pilgrims Welfare Board in Ilorin for pilgrims.
Represented by the permanent secretary, General Services at the Governor’s Office, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Shuaib, Jibril emphasised the need for the pilgrims to conduct themselves as responsible citizens of Kwara and Nigeria during their stay in Saudi Arabia.
