A Chief Magistrate Court 3 sitting in Yola, Adamawa State yesterday, ordered the remand of three persons in prison custody for allegedly killing Thomas Godwin Zamfara.
The defendants, including Godwin Chakukuyada, Ibrahim Bakari and Danlami Ali, were arraigned in court for allegedly killing late Thomas Godwin Zamfara, while one Stephen Peter is currently at large.
The trio was arraigned for criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, contrary to sections 60 and 191 of the Adamawa State Penal Code 2018, as amended.
According to the First Information Report tendered in court, the deceased, who was on his way from Fadama Rake to Kala’a, was attacked by violent political thugs allegedly sponsored by a prominent son of the land, a frontline philanthropist.
The defendants, according to the FIR, beat up the deceased until he became unconscious, saying that he was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre Hong, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
Arraigning the defendants, the prosecutor, Inspector Ali Emmanuel, urged the court to read the FIR to them so that they could enter their pleas.
All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the alleged offences when the case was called.
The court presided by Chief Magistrate Uwani Danladi ordered the remand of the defendants to enable the police complete investigation since one person is still at large and transmit case file to DPP for vetting and legal advice.
Chief Magistrate Uwani adjourned the case to June 19, 2025.
