Kucheza Game-Based Computing Learning has trained 36 teachers from 24 schools in its bid to increase digital literacy and computing learning skills in Lagos and Nigeria at large.

Speaking on the creative pedagogue for teachers in Lagos, Service Lead at Kucheza Gaming, Gbenga Folorunsho, said the move is to empower Lagos State teachers with game-based computing learning to drive initiatives in a tech-driven world for tech driven creative.

He stated that the initiative marks a significant step toward preparing Nigerian teachers and youths for a digital future by equipping them with practical skills and fostering international collaborations.

“With the context of limited access to computing education and devices in schools, Kucheza Gaming’s Ingenuity Day focused on the playful computing curriculum, an award-winning, unplugged programme that teaches computational thinking without requiring immediate access to a computer.

“This hands-on, interactive curriculum equips teachers with tools to make STEM education more accessible and engaging for students regardless of technological resources. “

Folorunsho also said teachers are the catalysts for educational transformation, adding that by embracing game-based learning and digital literacy, “we are equipping our teachers with the essential tools to prepare students for a technology-driven future.

‘’We are also grateful for the support of the French Embassy in Nigeria, whose sponsorship has been pivotal in making this initiative a reality.’’

He also stated that the programme aims to sustain teacher growth and foster the integration of digital literacy into everyday classroom practices.

“As a next step, selected teachers will be empowered to kick start the playful computing workshops in their respective schools, bringing game-based learning directly to students.

“We find it particularly interesting to encourage young people to learn computing concepts through video games. Kucheza Gaming capitalises on the interests of youth to help them reinterpret their passion and we hope that these practices will become more democratised in the future.

“The success of Ingenuity Day reflects Kucheza Gaming’s continued commitment to showcasing career pathways and fostering future-ready skills through play,” he said.
