The 38 members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, Ekiti local government area of Kwara State, who were abducted by gunmen and rescued last week, have returned to their hometown and reunited with their families.
The worshippers, who were mostly women, were abducted by bandits during a church service on November 18, 2025, but were rescued after seven days in captivity.
The rescue operation was led by President Bola Tinubu, Kwara State governor, Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
In a statement yesterday, the chief press secretary to the chairman of Ekiti local government area, Dada Sunday, said the rescued worshippers were handed over to the council chairman, Hon. Awelewa Gabriel, in Ilorin, the state capital by the governor on Tuesday.
“The handover ceremony was a testament to the tireless efforts of the government and security agencies involved in the rescue mission,” he said.
Gabriel (council chairman) thanked Tinubu, AbdulRazaq, the national security adviser and all security agencies involved in the rescue effort.
He singled out Tinubu and AbdulRazaq for their prompt response to the attack, which led to the swift rescue of the abductees.
“We appreciate the comprehensive medical care and provisions given to the abductees after their rescue,” Gabriel said, assuring the residents of Ekiti council that his administration would continue to prioritise their safety and security.
