Football icon Lionel Messi celebrated his 39th birthday on Wednesday, marking another milestone in a remarkable career that has seen him establish himself as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport.

From his humble beginnings in Rosario, Argentina, to conquering world football with club and country, Messi’s journey has been defined by extraordinary success, record-breaking achievements and sustained excellence over more than two decades at the highest level.

The Argentine captain finally achieved the crowning moment of his career when he led his country to FIFA World Cup glory in Qatar in 2022, ending a long wait for the sport’s most coveted prize and cementing his place among football’s immortals.

Messi’s glittering trophy collection includes four UEFA Champions League titles, 10 Spanish league crowns, seven Copa del Rey triumphs and seven Spanish Super Cups during his legendary spell at FC Barcelona. He also won three FIFA Club World Cups and three UEFA Super Cups with the Catalan giants.

His success extended beyond Spain, with two French league titles and a French Super Cup during his time at Paris Saint-Germain before adding an MLS Cup crown after joining Inter Miami CF.

On the international stage, Messi’s achievements are equally impressive. Alongside his World Cup triumph, he has won two Copa América titles with Argentina national football team, as well as an Olympic gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Games and the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2005.

Individually, few players can match Messi’s list of honours. He is a record eight-time Ballon d’Or winner and has claimed the European Golden Shoe on six occasions. His collection of personal accolades also includes four FIFA World Player of the Year awards, three European Footballer of the Year titles and the prestigious Golden Boy award in 2005.
