Four pilgrims from Imo State on a Christian pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan have absconded. They failed to return to Nigeria with their group.
A senior official of the Imo State government, who spoke anonymously, confirmed the incident.
The absconding pilgrims were part of the delegation sponsored by the state government through the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC).
A reliable source said the authorities have initiated investigations to determine the whereabouts of the missing pilgrims and the NCPC has pledged to enhance its screening processes to prevent any recurrence.
The source revealed that one of the absconded pilgrims is related to a top government official in the state.
A total of 1,000 Imo residents participated in the pilgrimage sponsored by Hope Uzodimma’s administration.
The absconding individuals were part of the first batch airlifted from the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport.
