Four Julius Berger labourers appeared in a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja on Tuesday over alleged conspiracy and the theft of 86 PVC pipes.
They are George Edo, 47, Udeoba Izuchukwu, 31, Lucky Moses, 45, Oladele Dara,32.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against them.
The prosecutor, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that one Iloh Richard of D7, Julius Berger Central Yard, Utako, Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on June 14.
Nwachukwu alleged that the defendants conspired on the same date to steal 86 pieces of PVC pipes, the value of which is yet unknown, from the Berger yard.
She alleged that the defendants were caught while trying to move the stolen pipes from the Berger yard at Life Camp, Abuja, and handed over to the police for proper investigation.
She also alleged that the stolen items were recovered from the defendants, and during police investigations, they could not give a satisfactory account of their actions.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 289 of the penal code.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Musa Jobbo, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 each with a surety each in like sum.
Jobbo ordered that the sureties must have reliable means of identification and reside within the court’s jurisdiction. He adjourned the case until Aug. 31 for a hearing.
