Four pedestrians have been injured while an eight-month-old baby was rescued safely in a multi-vehicle crash that occurred at Otedola, inward Tollgate on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Lagos State.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reports that a Hydra truck, an LT commercial bus, a Ford car, and an unregistered Mark flat-body truck were involved in the collision.
LASTMA said preliminary investigations, indicates that the pedestrians, including one with her baby strapped to her back attempted to cross the expressway when the bus on high speed ran into them.
The transport agency said the impact subsequently resulted into collision involving the other vehicles.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy with the injured persons and called on residents to always use the pedestrian bridges.
He stressed that crossing high-speed highways on foot remains extremely dangerous and unnecessarily puts lives at risk.
The four injured pedestrians were later stabilised at the scene and rushed to the Lagos State Accident & Emergency Centre at Tollgate for urgent medical care.
LASTMA officials later removed the affected vehicles from the road, restoring traffic flow and preventing further congestion on the route.
