No fewer than 43,928 vulnerable women across the 17 Local Government Areas of Yobe State are set to benefit from a share investment initiative jointly funded by Governor Mai Mala Buni and the Dangote Foundation, following the fulfilment of their financial pledges ahead of the October 27 deadline.
Under the initiative, each beneficiary is entitled to 20 shares through the Dangote Initial Public Offering (IPO), providing thousands of vulnerable women with an opportunity to participate in investment and wealth creation.
The intervention targets widows, orphans, vulnerable women and families affected by conflict, with the broader objective of promoting financial inclusion, strengthening household economic resilience and creating opportunities for long-term prosperity.
Announcing the fulfilment of the commitments, the Secretary to the Yobe State Government, Dr. Mohammed Goje, described the development as a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to improve the economic circumstances of vulnerable citizens.
Goje said the initiative goes beyond immediate financial assistance, as it seeks to give beneficiaries access to an investment opportunity with the potential to generate lasting economic value for them and their families.
He recalled that the initiative originated from a vision articulated by Governor Buni at the 81st United Nations General Assembly, which has now translated into a concrete intervention targeting 43,928 women across the state.
According to him, the fulfilment of the financial commitments by Governor Buni and Alhaji Aliko Dangote before the stipulated deadline demonstrates their determination to translate the initiative from a promise into practical support for the intended beneficiaries.
The SSG explained that the intervention was designed to address economic vulnerabilities among women by opening pathways to financial inclusion and enabling them to participate in an investment opportunity that could benefit their households and communities.
He noted that economically empowering vulnerable women has wider implications for community development, as stronger household livelihoods can contribute to improved family welfare, resilience and opportunities for future generations.
Goje, however, acknowledged that the full benefits of the investment may take time to materialise, expressing optimism that the initiative would provide beneficiaries with an opportunity to participate in wealth creation and build a more secure economic future.
He said the intervention aligns with the Buni administration’s commitment to people-centred governance, social protection and sustainable development, particularly for citizens whose livelihoods have been affected by poverty and the consequences of conflict.
With the October 27 payment deadline met, the initiative has reached a significant implementation milestone, bringing 43,928 vulnerable women closer to participating in the investment opportunity.
