45 Arrested Over Looting Of NEMA Warehouses In Adamawa

The police have confirmed the arrest of 45 suspects, involved in the vandalisation of warehouses and recovered looted items in Yola the state capital of Adamawa State.

The state police public relations officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya, confirmed the development to LEADERSHIP in Yola.

Yahaya said all the suspects have been detained at the police headquarters.

He said the combined patrol team including army, police and other security agencies, have prevented escalation of the looting for now.

Meanwhile, head of operation, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ladan Ayuba,  confirmed that all the four warehouses belong to the agency, and were located along Numan road.

“All the four warehouses belonging to NEMA in the state have been vandalised. This is high level of criminality, where food and non-food items were carted away,” he said.

Ayuba said the recently renovated agency’s office was also attacked by the miscreants and that many official documents got missing during the uprising.

The agency’s stores house food and non-food items for IDPs in Malkohi, Fofure and St Theresa camps.

Earlier, the government had declared a 24-hour curfew to restore law and order across the state.

LEADERSHIP reports that, markets and shops were closed down in compliance with the order, even as people were seen trekking to their various destinations.
