Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested one Bassey Udoh, 39, with a bag containing an English Beretta pistol.

His arrest took place at Customs Market, DBS Road, Asaba, the state capital.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is a member of a syndicate, which breaks into people’s homes and cart away their property.

In their account, the police said, “On August 16, 2025, at about 0511hrs, operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Delta State Command, while on stop-and-search operations stopped the suspect. The suspect, on sighting the police, became uncomfortable and this prompted the policemen to search him on the spot.”

The command’s public relations officer, superintendent of police, Edafe Bright, said the suspect, now in custody, bought the gun for the sum of N30,000.

The police said at about 1530hrs, a patrol team of Eagle-Net Special Squad, Asaba, received a distressed call on a missing motorcycle.

In a joint operation with some members of the Nigeria Hunters Security Services (NFSS), the police arrested one Precious Okoro, 27, of Ulo Street, Asaba; Buhari Deyegu, 18, of Ibusa Road, Asaba and recovered the missing motorcycle.

Bright said the suspect is an ex-convict who was released from Ogwashi-uku Correctional Centre on August 6, 2025, after completing his jail term of two years for a similar offence of stealing a motorcycle.

“The suspect went back to steal another motorcycle just five days after returning from prison. Investigation was extended to the suspect’s residence, where a search warrant was executed, and one Tiger generating set, one big Fireman generating set, an iron measuring scale, were recovered.

“The suspect is in custody,” Bright confirmed.
