The defendants, identified as Ademola Isiaka (58), Alabi Rasak (58), Ademola Aremu (22), Muritala Habideen (24), and Abisoye Taiwo (55), appeared before Chief Magistrate Mrs O. O. Ogunkanmi.

The Chief Magistrate did not entertain the pleas of the defendants but ordered their remand at the Abolongo custodial facility in Oyo Town pending advice from the Oyo State Director of Public Prosecutions.

The case has been adjourned until February 5, 2024, for further mention.

The police charged the defendants with two counts of conspiracy and attempted murder, alleging that the accused, in collaboration with others still at large, attempted to murder Mr Musefiu Raimi, a 40-year-old farmer, on December 10.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Sikiru Opaleye, the incident occurred between 8:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the Ilajue area of Ogbomoso.

The defendants reportedly set up a roadblock as Mr. Raimi was returning from his farm on a motorcycle. When the victim attempted to flee upon encountering the roadblock, the defendants shot him in the leg.

Opaleye clarified that the defendants’ actions violated Sections 320 and 324 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The court will await further guidance from the Director of Public Prosecutions as the case progresses.
