In a powerful message delivered during the wedding ceremony of Miss Taiwo Ajayi and Mr Tolulope Alegbeleye, Prophet Samuel Adegboyega, General Overseer of the Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church (SPAC) International, Ibadan, condemned the act of husbands beating their wives. He declared that such men are “beating down their own treasures”.
Adegboyega’s sermon, titled “The Wine Pot Must Not Go Dry”, resonated with the attendees, many of whom nodded in agreement. He emphasised that marriage is a sacred institution, but lamented its devaluation by many in contemporary society.
“No condition, including economic hardship, justifies any spouse deviating from God’s original plan and purpose for marriage,” he said.
He outlined five resolutions that couples should make to fulfil God’s purpose in their marriage:
1. **Never beat or be violent to your wife.** When you beat your wife, you are beating down your treasures.
2. **Never abuse or be violent to your husband.** When you abuse your husband, you are also cursing your head.
3. **This union is until death do us part at old age.** I will forsake all other women/men, not just for now but forever as we both live.
4. **I will rejoice with the wife/husband of my youth.** We will always have time together to make each other happy and keep nothing sacred to each other, including finance.
5. **We shall together keep more committed to the service of our Lord Jesus Christ.**
Adegboyega stressed the importance of the husband’s leadership role, emphasising that it should not be wielded like an “army general” but rather used to create peace within the household.
Justice Ezekiel Ajayi, the bride’s father, expressed his gratitude to the guests for attending and offered his prayers for the couple’s happiness and joy in their union. He urged them to love and respect each other while remaining dedicated to their service to God.
In his remarks, the groom, Tolulope Alegbeleye, thanked the officiating ministers and parents for their guidance and promised to adhere to God’s plan for marriage.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of a photo frame containing the seven resolutions outlined by the cleric, serving as a constant reminder of the couple’s commitment to each other and to God.
Prophet Adegboyega’s message serves as a powerful reminder that violence has no place in a healthy marriage. It is a call to action for husbands to respect their wives and build their homes on a foundation of love, trust, and understanding.
