5 Veritas Varsity Students Join EU Exchange Programme In Poland

Five students from Veritas University have travelled to Poland for a full semester under the Erasmus Exchange Programme between the school and the University of Social and Media Culture in Torun, Poland.

The programme is the European Union’s (EU) flagship initiative that enables students and staff to study, train, or work abroad. It covers study periods of two to 12 months.

In a press statement by Ben Agande, head of Corporate Affairs and Communications, the participants received grants to cover travel and living expenses while gaining international experience.

The students, two each from the Computer Science and Software Engineering Departments and one from the Mass Communication Department, left Abuja last Wednesday for Warsaw, the Polish capital, from where they will connect to Torun, the university’s location.

At a brief ceremony at the airport, the head of the Directorate of Advancement and International Collaboration, Dr Kathleen McGarvey, informed the students that, as ambassadors of Veritas University and, indeed, Nigeria, a lot is expected of them.

“On behalf of the vice-chancellor, Prof. Hyacinth Ichoku, I want to once again congratulate you on your selection through a transparent and rigorous process for this exchange programme. We are proud of you, and we have no doubt that you will discharge yourselves creditably.

“You are pioneers in this exchange programme between Veritas University, Abuja, Nigeria and the University of Social and Media Culture, Torun, Poland.

“The expectations from you are high. How you conduct yourselves and meet the academic requirements will go a long way toward ensuring that the programme is sustained and that other students benefit in the future.

“You have an opportunity to make yourselves, your parents, your university and your country proud,” she told the students.

The team consists of four female students from the departments of Software Engineering, Computer Science, and Mass Communication, while the only male student on the team is from the Department of Computer Science.
