The Jigawa State Government has enhanced its social security program for disabled individuals by raising their monthly allowance from N7,000 to N10,000.

The state Commissioner for Information, Youth Sports and Culture, Hon Sagir Musa, revealed this while fielding questions from newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting.

Musa explained that the disabled social security programme is legislatively supported, ensuring that everyone enrolled is entitled to a monthly allowance for life.

He noted that, following a recent assessment of the programme, a significant portion of the initial beneficiaries had been affected by death over the years.

He added that a comprehensive social register has also been designed to capture all disabled individuals in the state along with their specific needs for more targeted and sustainable support.

He said, “His excellency Governor Malam Umar Namadi out of his passion to help disabled people to have ease of life, get sense of belonging as well as fighting abject poverty through social security and empowerment intervention he approved for the replacement and increase of the beneficiary to 5,500”

“Two hundred disabled people are enrolled in every one of the 27 local government areas of the state, more so a comprehensive social register is also designed to capture all disabled people in the state with their special needs for more appropriate and sustainable support.”

In response to the programme review, Comrade Shuaibuusa Kafin Gana, the Chairman of Jigawa State Coalition of Civil Societies on Nutrition and Social Security, expressed satisfaction, considering it a welcome development that will enhance the lives of the vulnerable group in the state.

He also pledged to monitor the implementation of the review to ensure transparency and accountability.
