5MW Energy: Rana, NDC Commission Phase 1 To Boost Production

Rana Energy, an AI-enabled energy ecosystem focused on delivering clean, reliable, and affordable power, in partnership with the National Defense College (NDC), has successfully commissioned Phase One of its ambitious 5 Megawatt (MW) Energy Security Program aimed at boosting energy production in Nigeria.

Speaking at the commissioning yesterday in Abuja, CEO and co-founder Abraham Mohammed described the achievement as a significant milestone in the program, which is designed to enhance energy security for critical institutions across the country.

He explained that the project was initiated in response to a clarion call from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging the nation to utilise all available resources to increase energy production.

He emphasised that the Commandant of the National Defense College, Rear Admiral O. M. Olotu embraced the directive and partnered with Rana Energy to implement innovative solar and battery solutions at the college.

He stated that the federal government has played a crucial role in supporting the project by providing timely financing and facilitating the clearance of customs duties.

Mohammed emphasised that the project was flagged off 11 months ago by the President, represented by the Minister of Defense, and has now achieved its first major milestone with the commissioning of Phase 1.

He stressed that looking ahead, Rana Energy plans to expand its renewable energy solutions across Nigeria, with a focus on security formations, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions.

He said the company has set an ambitious goal of deploying 1,000 MW of renewable energy and battery solutions nationwide within the next seven years.

“I want to extend our gratitude to UBA Bank, ARM HoldCo, and Dentons ACAS-Law for their unwavering support in realising this vision,” he said. “We are eager to advance to Phase Two of the program and continue our mission to power Nigeria’s future.”

He highlighted that the NDC, Nigeria’s most prestigious military institution and one of the foremost globally, is the site for this first phase. Rana Energy has deployed a 1 MW solar panel installation in a butterfly-shaped car park, now one of the largest solar car parks in the country.

He emphasised that this installation is complemented by a 400 kilowatt-hour battery storage system, providing four to six hours of additional power when solar generation is low.

Mohammed reiterated that Rana Energy is committed to supporting critical institutions such as hospitals, clinics, security agencies, and underserved communities by providing sustainable energy solutions.

He noted that Phase 1 has already employed over 100 local workers over the past 12 months, showcasing the potential of Nigeria’s youth when given the right opportunities.

The CEO further explained that the program is structured in three phases, aiming to deliver 5 MW of power across the NDC’s facilities. Phase Two will involve the deployment of a 2 MW system at the NDC’s permanent site, where academic activities are expected to commence soon.

He further said the Phase Three will see the installation of an additional 2 MW at the NDC’s camp in Oshafa, supporting accommodation facilities.

Mohammed stated that once completed, this program will generate enough power for approximately 5,000 homes, underscoring its potential to significantly impact energy availability in the area.
