Zamfara Command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), has confirmed the death of six persons from road crashes in Gusau, caused by the ongoing road reconstructions.

The sector commander, Mr Iro Danladi, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gusau, yesterday, saying people should be aware of the repair jobs on the roads.

He said in this period of road reconstruction in Gusau, the capital city of the state, six persons have so far died in different auto crashes, mostly along the bypass road. The victims are mostly women and children crossing the road.

Danladi warned drivers to be extremely careful and lower their speed to as low as 20km/hr to avoid some unforeseen circumstance that may occur.

According to him, although the FRSC personnel were on the roads to control traffic, there was the need for the construction companies handling the projects to make adequate provision of the road signs and assign traffic officers that would draw the attention of motorists and members of the public.

He called on the government to enlighten the public on how to use roads during this period of road projects, considering the changes in traffic order due to the reconstruction work.

Danladi said the government should sponsor jungles and other means of public sensitization through the media to create awareness among citizens, especially those in the affected areas. (NAN).
