Six retired Army generals and an ex-minister have made the list of the 1,740 members of the campaign council of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, High Chief Ikechi Emenike.

Inaugurating the council in Umuahia, the state capital yesterday, Emenike, who is also the chairman, charged the members to hit the ground running immediately in view of the enormity of the task.

He said the list, which “was compiled after a long period of scrutiny is not cast in stone”, adding that it could be altered to assign any members to positions where they could perform better.

“You are as well free to ask for reassignment to any position you think you can perform optimally. Our major task is to rescue and develop the state from further deterioration.”

Emenike warned that even as the ruling Peoples Democratic Party has made their job easy by its low performance, they should not take its failure for granted because it has been in government for almost 24 years.

The list has the governor, his deputy governor, members of both the National and state Assemblies, government appointees, local government councils, commissioners and the party executives and members as its structure.

Similarly, the deputy governorship candidate, who is one of the two deputy chairmen of the council, Barr (Mrs) Glory Akara said for the fact members of the APC have turned up in their numbers, it shows it was moving forward to victory.

“For us to be here today shows that there’s a movement that has continued to be mobile. It can’t stop because it is not designed to stop. Elections are just few months away. So, I want to say we’re going to be victorious,” she said.

According to the director-general of the council, High Chief Uche Ogboso, the occasion was one of those members of the APC and the entire people of the state had long been waiting for.
