Six members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have resigned their membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing internal divisions, injustice, insecurity and what they described as poor leadership by the state government.

The lawmakers announced their decisions in separate resignation letters dated October 4, 2026, addressed to the chairmen of their respective wards.

Among those who resigned are Ibrahim T. Tukur, representing Bakura Constituency; Aliyu Ango Kagara, representing Talata-Mafara South Constituency; Faruk Musa Dosara, representing Maradun I Constituency; Bashar Aliyu, representing Gummi I Constituency; Basiru Bello, representing Bungudu West Constituency; and Mukhtaru Nasiru , representing Kaura Namoda North Constituency.

The lawmakers cited similar reasons for their departure, including what they described as a “lack of unity among the party stakeholders in the state, deception, uncertainties, injustice and inability of the government to overcome security situation” in their constituencies and the state at large.

Tukur, in his resignation letter addressed to the APC Chairman in Bakura Ward, said his decision followed “careful and wide consultations.”

He said the decision was also informed by the “nonchalant attitude” and “poor leadership of the governor.”

Similarly, Kagara, in his letter to the APC Chairman in Kagara Ward, Talata-Mafara Local Government Area, said he was resigning after consultations over the “lack of unity among the party stakeholders in the state, deception, uncertainties, injustice and inability of the government to overcome security situation in my constituency and state at large.”

He also cited the “non-chalant attitude of the Governor and poor leadership.”

Dosara, who addressed his resignation to the APC Chairman of Birnin Kaya/Dosara Ward in Maradun Local Government Area, said his decision followed consultations over the party’s internal challenges and the security situation.

He listed “lack of unity among the party stakeholders in the state, deception, uncertainties, injustice and inability of the government to overcome security situation in my constituency and state at large” among the reasons for his resignation.

Dosara also accused the governor of a “non-chalant attitude” and “poor leadership.”

In his resignation letter, Bashar Aliyu said he was leaving the APC with immediate effect after “careful and wide consultations.”

According to him, the decision was prompted by “lack of unity among the party stakeholders in the state, deception, uncertainties, injustice and inability of the government to overcome security situation in my constituency, state at large and above all nonchalant attitude, poor leadership of the governor.”

Bashar, who represents Gummi I Constituency, expressed appreciation to the APC leadership and members for their support and cooperation during his time in the party.

Also resigning is Basiru Bello, representing Bungudu West Constituency.

Bello similarly cited “lack of unity among the party stakeholders in the state, deception, uncertainties, injustice and inability of the government to overcome security situation in my constituency, state at large.”

He further blamed what he described as the “nonchalant attitude” and “poor leadership of the Governor” for his decision to leave the party.

Meanwhile, Mukhtaru Nasiru, representing Kaura Namoda North Constituency, also announced his resignation from the APC with immediate effect.

Shehu said his decision followed “careful and wide consultations,” citing “lack of unity among the party stakeholders in the state, deception, uncertainties, injustice and inability of the government to overcome security situation in my constituency and state at large.”

He also cited the “nonchalant attitude of the governor” and “poor governance.”

Despite announcing their resignations, the lawmakers expressed gratitude to the APC leadership and members for the support and cooperation they received during their membership of the party.

They all asked the respective ward party chairmen to accept their letters as formal notices of resignation with immediate effect.

The resignations represent a major political development in Zamfara State, coming amid continued concerns over insecurity and political divisions in the state.
