7 Farmers Killed In Niger Crash

Seven farmers travelling from Batati to Kutigi have been confirmed dead in a fatal auto crash in Panti along the Bida-Mokwa road in the Lavun local government area of Niger State.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the accident occurred Tuesday night when a tanker from Lagos to Abuja crashed into a Toyota Corolla carrying the farmers from Batati to Kutigi.

It was learnt that the Toyota Corolla, Registration Number ANW243AH, had nine occupants and was trying to overtake when it collided with an incoming Tanker from the opposite direction, killing five female and two male occupants.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the driver of the Corolla, popularly called Halilu, with one other person survived the crash, but the seven other occupants were submerged in the car and died at the spot

When contacted, the Sector Commander Niger state command of Federal Road Safety Corp FRSC Kumar Tsukwam confirmed to LEADERSHIP that „it was a Multiple crash that was fatal; it claimed seven lives”.

He said the tanker Truck and the Corolla wreckage were left with the Motor Traffic Department MTD of the Kutigi Division for further investigation.

He said the bodies of the dead victims were taken to General Hospital Kutigi for thorough examination and confirmation before they were handed over to the relatives of the victims for burial.
