Over 700 vulnerable patients from within and outside Katsina State are expected to benefit from a free hernia and hydrocele surgery programme launched by the Dahiru Bara’u Mangal Foundation at the General Hospital, Katsina.

At the commencement of the exercise, a member of the foundation’s Board of Trustees, Hussaini Kabir, said the initiative was aimed at improving access to quality healthcare for vulnerable residents who cannot afford surgical treatment.

Kabir explained that patients diagnosed with hernia and hydrocele are being screened before undergoing free surgeries, while those with less severe conditions will receive medications at no cost.

He said the programme, fully sponsored by philanthropist Alhaji Dahiru Bara’u Mangal, is conducted periodically to provide quality healthcare services to the less privileged.

According to him, the Foundation has provided free medical care to more than 30,000 vulnerable patients across Katsina State since 2018 through various medical outreach programmes.

Kabir also disclosed that the Foundation has commenced the screening and treatment of about 2,000 patients with different eye conditions, including those requiring surgery.

He added that the Foundation continues to sponsor free eye surgeries, urological procedures and other specialised medical interventions across the state.

Also speaking, Dr. Saifullahi Bawale commended the Foundation for complementing government efforts in healthcare delivery through sustained medical outreach programmes.

He said the initiative had restored hope to thousands of vulnerable patients who could not afford treatment, adding that adequate medical personnel, equipment, medications and other facilities had been deployed to ensure the success of the exercise.

Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Foundation for the intervention.

Malama Zulaihat Adamu from Jibia said she was delighted that her son would finally undergo a hernia operation after the family had been unable to afford the cost for a long time.
