Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Malam Abubakar Nakwada, has handed out N15 million in financial assistance to 750 disadvantaged individuals, with each recipient getting N20,000. The programme, organised by the DLD Grassroots Foundation, is part of Nakwada’s drive to support Governor Dauda Lawal’s anti-poverty crusade.

Addressing the gathering at the grant ceremony in Gusau, Engr. Ahmad Garba Yandi, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, lauded Nakwada’s dedication to uplifting citizens. “Malam Nakwada is a committed humanitarian who has consistently made a positive impact across the state,” Yandi stated.

Yandi also highlighted the SSG’s scholarship programme, which benefits over 100 Zamfara students annually, aligning with Governor Lawal’s educational objectives. Earlier this year, Nakwada disbursed around N12 million in scholarships to 170 local students, with a second tranche currently underway, benefiting 64 students with N7,552,000.

The Students Affairs Division of Federal University Gusau praised Nakwada’s philanthropy, saying his efforts have “opened doors for many students, especially the underprivileged and orphans, to realize their academic aspirations.” The division noted that 65% of beneficiaries have secured places at Federal University Gusau and Zamfara State University, while 10% gained admission to Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto and other institutions.
