The eight corps members that were abducted in Zamfara State on their way to Sokoto for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp have spent 32 days in their kidnappers’ den.
LEADERSHIP reports that the corps members were kidnapped on August 17 on their way from Uyo to Sokoto.
The abductors are reportedly demanding an additional N200 million as ransom, after collecting N13 million earlier paid by the victims’ families.
It would be recalled that the families earlier released N5 million of the initially discussed total ransom of N13 million, while the abductors gave them until September 6 to pay the balance of N8 million.
But reacting to the development, the NYSC authorities said there were ongoing efforts for their rescue.
NYSC director of press and public relations, Eddy Megwa, said the “NYSC is still working with security agencies to ensure that we secure their release.”
