8 Nigerians Win British Council, Prince’s Trust Int’l Entrepreneurship Grant

Eight young Nigerian entrepreneurs have emerged winners of the grant provided by the global platform of the British Monarch, Prince Trust International in partnership with the British Council.

The eight entrepreneurs under ‘The Sustainable Entrepreneurship Challenge Program’, received two hundred and fifty thousand naira cheque each after emerging tops from a poll of sixteen entrepreneurs from an initial sixty entrepreneurs,  between the age of 18 and 35 years old who pitched their business under Nerdz Factory,  in the presence of five judges who selected the winners from the pool.

The enterprises challenge winners divided into two groups: Cohort I Include Most Innovative Business Idea- Blue Sands Stem Labs, Alero Thompson;  Most Societally Friendly Business Idea – Mee Best Foods, Zenani  Gbadume; Most Profitable Business Idea: Hems to fit, Oluwatosin Rotimi; Most Environmentally Friendly Business Idea: Ecodey Management Resources, Mansueah Shobulo.

The winners in Cohort II include   Most Innovative Business Idea: Eco Feet  Most Societally Friendly Business Idea: Suss Flow; Olabisi Emmanuel; Most Profitable Business Idea: Cattle Technology, Emmanuel Nnamdi: Most Environmentally Friendly Business Idea: Buy Scrap Nigeria.

British Council Country Director, Lucy Pearson who witnessed the event stated that the entrepreneurship challenge was “a proof of British Council’s commitment and hope in young people of Nigeria and will continue to provide opportunities for young persons to develop their talents through our works in Arts and Culture, Education and Society, and English Language.  Building the skills of young people using local initiatives and talents, innovations and solutions is a game changer for economic development of this great country, Nigeria.”

Pearson commended the commitment of Nerdz factory Company Limited for successfully implementing this project in Lagos, being one of the three pilot states.

She added that the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and training of.  sixty young persons as beneficiaries of this project.

The British Council, Country Director, commended international partner, Prince’s Trust International for working hand-in-hand with the British Council in the design and ultimate implementation of the project.

“At British Council, our vision of a more peaceful and prosperous world built on trust can only be achieved when young people are provided with the right skills and network to make informed choices and be provided with a clear career pathway that is why we are involved in this project,’’ she said.
