An 80-year-old woman reportedly died in a fire outbreak in Ilorin, Kwara State yesterday.
The fire incident occurred on Sunday at about 3.00pm at No 43, Adegboye Street, Off Lower Niger River Basin road, Fate, Ilorin.
The spokesman of the State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle who confirmed the incident said the firefighters recovered the corpse of the woman from the building after putting out the fire.
He told LEADERSHIP at about 10pm on Sunday that the corpse of the victim had been handed over to her family.
Adekunle said, “Kwara State Fire Service douses fire today, Sunday 19th February, 2023 and recover a woman of about 80 years old at No. 43, Adegboye Street, behind the Federal Secretariat, Fate Area, Ilorin, Ilorin East local government, Kwara State.
“The fire which was reported by one Mr Oni at about 15:00 hours (03:00pm) had fire crew in attendance to forestall disaster in the area. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained while it was however confined to the first floor of the storey building where it originated from one of the four flats in the storey building.
“Due to the delay in distress call, the raging fire has caused severe damage to the buildings and a woman of about 80 years old was recovered from the building and presumed dead before the spread of the fire was confined and eventually subdued,” he said.
