At least no fewer than nine persons were reportedly killed, while 11 others sustained injuries following an attack on Angwan Magaji community in Kamaru Ward of Kauru local government area of Kaduna State, a boundary community with Plateau State.

The incident, which occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, has raised fresh concerns over insecurity affecting communities along the Kaduna–Plateau axis.

A statement issued by the national publicity secretary of the Irigwe Youth Movement, Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, said the attackers invaded the community and opened fire on residents.

Yonkpa stated that most residents of the affected community are members of the Irigwe ethnic group with roots in Bassa local government area of Plateau State.

Those reportedly killed in the attack were identified as Jerry Doctor, 51; Danlami Magani, 49; Sunday Chibi, 53; Rita Abdullahi, 45; Sunday Elkan, 5; Esther Kefas, 5; Happy Friday, 6; Moses Daddy, 4; and Daddy Ibrahim, 28.

Eleven other residents sustained varying degrees of injuries and were said to be receiving treatment.

The national secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, Danjuma Dickson Auta, confirmed the incident and condemned the attack.

Auta described the killing as unfortunate and called on security agencies to immediately investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

He expressed concern over what he described as repeated attacks on communities in the area and urged authorities to strengthen security measures to protect lives and property.

Auta  also appealed to government at all levels to take urgent steps to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among residents, noting that the incident has left the community in mourning and renewed calls for swift intervention to halt recurring violence in the area.
