Ohanaeze: Iwuanyanwu Credible Successor To Obiozor, Say Igbo Women

The Women Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has endorsed the elder statesman and founder of Champions Newspaper, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, as the new president general of the pan-Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

Leader of Women Wing, Chief Rita Chukwuji said Iwuanyanwu is a credible replacement for the late Prof. George Obiozor who died last December after a brief illness.

In a statement, Chukwuji said Iwuanyanwu boasts of years of credible experience and outstanding leadership pedigree that will help the body and the Igbo race navigate through especially at these moments of ethnic tension across the country.

“The women wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo is solidly behind Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu as the new President General of the pan-Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo. This is not only timely but strategic, taking cognizance of his reach network, national appeal and ability to speak up at all times.

“He is without any shadow of doubt a worthy replacement for our late leader, Prof. George Obiozor who passed on since December.

“We are solidly behind him and ready to offer the needed support that will help Ndigbo once again build new bridges of love, national healing and ethnic tolerance.”

“It our hope and belief that all Igbo sons and daughters worldwide will join forces with the new leadership to drive a common agenda in the overall interest of Igbo land and her people”, she said.

The national publicity secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Dr Alex Ogbonnia, had announced the emergence of Chief Iwuanyanwu as the President General in a statement on Thursday in Enugu.

According to him, in line with the doctrine of necessity, the NEC had at the demise of Amb. Obiozor directed the people of Imo State to find a credible replacement for Obiozor for the post of President- General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.

Ogbonnia added that the Imo State Council of Elders, led by Eze Ilomuanya presented Chief Iwuanyanwu to Gov. Hope Uzodimma, as “the consensus candidate” of the Council to lead Ohaneze.

Iwuanyanwu, who hails from Ikeduru in Imo, had been presented to Gov. Hope Uzodinma for approval to finish the tenure of late Prof. George Obiozor who died in 2022.
