Rotary Club Umuahia North District 9142 has donated various hospital equipment to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, Abia State capital, reiterating its resolve to partner the centre.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, yesterday, the Synergizer president of the district, Geraldine Onuorah said the gesture is in line with the club’s advocacy on prevention and treatment of disease.
“We’re always thinking about the welfare of the people and society and this inspired our decision to make a strong intervention in the health sector,” she explained.
The equipment include designer clocks, Sims and couscous speculum, sphygmomanometer, fetal dopplers, stethoscope, pulse oximeters, pairs of batteries, weighing scale with height, and medical ultrasound gels among others.
Responding to the gesture, the chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee of the centre, Ugochukwu Onyeonoro, appreciated and commended the district for “the selfless sacrifice”.
A representative of the head, nursing service of the centre, Aishetu Onyemaobi, speaking after receiving the items, appreciated the club for its concern for humanity and maternal and child health.
Onyemaobi, who described the gesture as very thoughtful and timely, commended the president and the district for working towards one of the major objectives of the club.
In their respective remarks, former assistant governor, Uchenna Oguama and the assistant governor designate, Uchenna Kalu of the district, pledged its continued support for the centre.
