In its bid to be financially stable, the Diocese of Umuahia, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has initiated investment plans and modalities to raise the funds.
The Rt. Revd Geoffrey Ibeabuchi, the bishop, stated this in his presidential address at the 3rd session of the 10th Synod of the diocese in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
“This includes the ongoing endowment fund drive which will last for five years at the first instance and launching/fund raising which will come up later in the year,” he said.
He announced that in furtherance of the bid, the diocese has renovated its Women’s Skill Acquisition Centre, adding that the centre is now conducive for other social/religious activities.
The bishop said the centre’s products such as table water and high quality tissue papers are now readily available and their outlets at the diocesan office complex is also functional.
Appealing to the members to always patronize the centre to achieve the aim, he admonished them: “Do not forget that in all church events, only the water is to be served at all levels.”
He said, similarly, the Diocesan Women Ministry through its president, Dr. Gospel has trained four young ladies in tailoring as part of its skills acquisition/empowernent programme.
“They were given sewing machines, sewing accessories and cash for them to start on their own. We pray that they will not be a disappointment to the vision,” the clergyman added.
