LP Urges IGP To Arrest Of Anyone Calling For Interim Govt

The Bashiru Lamidi Apapa-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has declared that the inauguration of the President-elect, Sen Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the next President of Nigeria on May 29th will proceed regardless of the ongoing leadership crisis within the party.

The faction also called for the arrest of anyone, including the LP’s own presidential candidate Peter Obi, who advocates for an interim government.

The national publicity secretary of the Lamidi Apapa-led faction, Abayomi Arabambi, made the call while addressing journalists after the FCT High Court affirmed Lamidi Apapa as the acting national chairman of the party.

Arabambi emphasised that no one is above the law of the land and anyone who tries to disrupt the transition process and the inauguration of the President-elect, Tinubu, on May 29th should be arrested and prosecuted, regardless of their status in society.

He also threatened that the NWC will appoint new lawyers to take over the Labour Party’s case at the election petition tribunal in Abuja if the party’s legal team failed to meet Lamidi Apapa in his capacity as the national chairman and brief him on the legal proceedings within 48 hours.

Arabambi disputed Peter Obi’s call for an interim administration and challenged the legitimacy of Obi’s argument that Tinubu should not be sworn in as President. According to Arabambi, the LP came third in the election behind the PDP and is not challenging the PDP’s votes, which they believe were allocated lawfully. He criticized Peter Obi for excluding the PDP from the LP’s challenge to the election results, saying that Obi should be ashamed of himself for challenging Tinubu’s victory while ignoring the PDP’s second-place finish.

Arabambi concluded by stressing that everyone must obey the laws of the land and that security agencies in the country must act to prevent any attempts to disrupt the inauguration of the President-elect or undermine the transition process.
