The chairperson of the Edo State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Sarah Igunbor, on Thursday, resigned her position to lead the youth body.

Igunbor, who announced her resignation in a statement she personally endorsed and made available to LEADERSHIP, was, however, silent on the real reason for her resignation.

Although it was gathered that the former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Godwin Obaseki may have caved in to pressure from high quarters.

Recall that her emergence three months ago had sparked up protest among other contenders, who had opposed the way and manner she emerged as the NYCN chairperson.

Part of her resignation letter reads, “I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to Edo Youths, various volunteering youth organizations, local government coordinators, leaders and stakeholders of Edo NYCN for the overwhelming solidarity, love, and support that I have received as the chairperson of the council. It has indeed been a humbling experience.

“When I took office three months ago, it was evident that the council’s narratives needed a significant transformation. With the support of dedicated individuals like yourself, we were able to make strides towards that change. However, I have come to a difficult decision that I believe is necessary for the greater good.

“Despite having contested and won the election, which resulted in the formation of an 18-member executive council, and being duly sworn in, I have decided to step aside. My primary motivation for entering the race was to foster peace, unity and development within the council. It is with this same intent that I make this choice.

“I firmly believe that the unity of the council should be prioritized above personal ambitions. By stepping aside, I hope to contribute to an environment where harmony prevails and collective goals can be achieved.

“To the entire members of the council, I want to wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Please know that my support will always be available, ready to be extended whenever it is needed. Together, we can build a brighter future for the youth and our nation.”
