A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Tony Okocha, has said Rivers State governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has reintegrated the state into national politics.
This is as he stated that Wike distinguished himself as a role model, who dedicated his administration to physical and infrastructural development of the entire state.
Okocha spoke yesterday in Port Harcourt, the state capital, shortly after receiving an award of excellence from the Ikwerre Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (IMPAN).
The APC chieftain insisted that the people of Ikwerre ethnic nationality hold the ace as far as the political landscape and space in Rivers State is concern.
Okocha, who served as Chief of Staff, Government House, during the second term of former Governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, said before the coming of Wike in 2015, the state used to play opposition politics.
He said: “Our brother, the outgoing governor has shown clearly that he is an unparalleled achiever. If you do some kind of juxtaposition, and put what we have seen over time, in terms of leadership of this state; okay, people talk about Spiff (King Alfred Diete-Spiff).
“But it is also a categorical mistake to begin to juxtapose Governor Wike’s tenure and achievements with that of Spiff.
Spiff was operating on military fiat. Via military fiat, you can cause the heaven to come down. You don’t need to go to any House of Assembly or the Court to overrule you. So, he (Spiff) was able to do a few things.
“But under a democratically elected system, Governor Wike has distinguished himself as a role model. I call him a paragon of excellence.
“I thought I was alone, but an APC government that ordinarily would have been diametrically opposed to a PDP person, proclaimed him and gave him a title, an honour handed over to him by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on infrastructure delivery.”
