The Institute of Directors (IoD) Nigeria has restated its commitment to good corporate governance and will continue to advocate for policies and practices that foster growth and innovation.

President, Institute of Directors Nigeria (IoD), Dr. Ije Jidenma stated this at the Institute 40th anniversary with the theme ‘Celebrating 40 years of Visionary Leadership and Corporate Governance’ held in Lagos.

She stated that, “we will continue to expand our local and international partnerships to expand the frontiers of best practice in corporate governance.

“We will remain committed to the principles of integrity and high ethical standards that have guided us for the past 40 years. These values have never been more important, as the world grapples with new and complex challenges.”

According to her, the IoD has demonstrated competence,

integrity and enterprise and 40 years of promoting corporate sustainability and Nigeria’s economic development through Directors’ capacity development and unrelenting advocacy in good corporate governance and sound business ethics.

“IoD Nigeria has also partnered the Federal Civil service of the Federation and State governments in building the capacity of the high echelon of decision makers on sound corporate governance practice that promote the nation’s attractiveness as an investment destination, in addition to strengthening institutions and engendering inclusive human capital development to foster environmental sustainability in the short and long run,” she pointed out.

The governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu said, the theme of this year’s celebration cannot be more concise and relevant as it speaks to the very essence IoD existence, achievement and the leadership position it has continued to occupy in the management space.

He added that, “effective application of the principles of corporate governance in the public sector has played a major role in our ability to connect effectively with the private sector and to firmly commit to implementing policies and strategies designed to promote ease of doing business and support the growth of private enterprises in different sectors of the economy.

“As we prepare for the commencement of a new dispensation on May 29, 2023, let me affirm our resolve to sustain the friendly and collaborative relationship between the public and private sectors in Lagos State.

“We will continue to sustain our partnership with the Institute of Directors as we are committed to deepen the application of the principles of corporate governance in the system for effective and efficient service delivery to the people.”

Also, former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, stated that, “this organisation has become a pacesetter in enshrining the culture of corporate governance in our country.”

He urged the management to continue to strive to project IoD as the go-to organization for integrity and exemplary leadership, saying “a place like IoD, given the reputation you have built for yourselves, could serve as a think tank or policy institute where corporate and political leaders could visit to test their ideas for responsible leadership and good governance.”
