Nigerian top table tennis player Offiong Edem is delighted that she will play again in the world table tennis flagship event, billed to take place at the Durban International Convention Center from May 20 to 28, 2023.
Africa will host the grand sporting event after 84 years. The last time the event was held in the continent was in Cairo, Egypt in 1939.
This year’s championship will feature 128 players each in the men’s and women’s singles, and 64 pairs in each of the doubles competitions.
Edem who lifted ETTU trophy recently in Budapest hopes to have great moment in South Africa.
“I’m really excited that Africa is hosting the world, in this big event. This is going to be the third world championship with me in attendance.(a little doubtful). it’s always a valuable experience for me and sometimes I get so nervous, but right now I’m going approach it with a healthy mindset and balance it with other aspects of life.”
Offiong also assured her fans that she will try to enjoy every bit of wt as well as connect with like-minded people.
Offiong is slated to play singles, doubles and mix doubles events.
“It was awesome I played fantastically well against Philippa from Sweden it was my best match, it ended 3-4 in favour of her.
Other top ranked Nigerian to play in Durban are Fatima Bello and two time African champion, Aruna Quadri.
