A sociocultural group based in Benin, Edo National Voice has appealed to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State to disband the Special Intervention Team (SIT) on Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma (AAU).
Its request came barely 24 hours after the University Staff Disciplinary Committee (USDC) announced the sack of 13 members of staff for various offences.
The acting vice chancellor, Asomwan Sonnie Adagbonyi, had accused the dismissed staff of misconduct and other unethical practices.
In its reaction, the group in a statement signed by the national president, Iyamu Osaro Culture and secretary, Comrade Collins Amadin, accused the SIT of sundry practices and dragging the reputation of the institution into the mud.
The group described the report as “satanic”.
Adagbonyi said, “It is no longer news that Ambrose Alli University is in a mess in the hands of SIT that was set up by Governor Obaseki few years ago whose aim was to help reclaim the lost glory of the ivory tower university but the reverse is now the case.
“It will interest us to know that there are several allegations hanging on the Special Intervention Team ranging from implementation of anti-people’s policy like the astronomical increase in school fees, victimisation of students and staff.
“ A few days ago, we dispatched our intelligence team to help unravel the reason why the satanic Special Intervention Team recently cooked up allegations against the staff of AAU and management, shockingly their findings were hinged on the satanic Special Intervention Team attempt to cover up their corruption activities in AAU which is already having adverse effects on the entire university community.
“Judging from our analysis and findings above, we therefore call on Governor Obaseki to immediately sack the satanic Special Intervention Team he planted in AAU,” he said.
