The youth corps members, whose number was yet-to-be ascertained, were kidnapped on May 16, 2023 along the East-West Road in Emohua local government area of Rivers State.

However, five of the youth corps members managed to escape into a nearby forest and were later rescued by Policemen attached to Rumuji Divisional Police headquarters.

The victims were returning to Port Harcourt, the state capital from the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ondo State when their commercial bus was ambushed by suspected kidnappers.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the release of the youth corps members in a chat with LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

“Yes, I can confirm to you that the kidnapped youth corps members have been rescued and they have all reunited with their families,” SP Iringe-Koko stated.
