Ahead of the Supreme Court judgment on the case of alleged double nomination of the Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima today, national women leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Betta Edu, said the party was less worried about the judgement.

Edu who appeared on Channels Television programme, ‘Politics Today’ expressed confidence in the Supreme Court judges to deliver justice.

The Supreme Court will today deliver final judgment on a suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking the disqualification of the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Vice-President-elect Shettima in the case of alleged double nomination, which according to them violates the electoral laws.

The opposition PDP, in its suit dated July 28, 2022, alleged that Shettima’s nomination as Tinubu’s running mate was done at the same time he was holding a nomination slot for the contest of Borno central senatorial seat, contrary to the provisions of sections 29(1), 33, 35, and 84(1)(2) of the Electoral Act, 2022.

But Edu, while responding to a question on the programme said her party and Nigerians are not bothered about what would be outcome of the judgement.

Edu said the May 29 inauguration of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu remains sacrosanct despite optimism from the PDP camp that the judgement will favour them at the Supreme Court today.

She said, “We understand clearly that it’s a no case and so APC indeed Nigerians are not in any way bothered about the judgement because already we know that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on 29th of May would be sworn in as president.

“Of course, you know very well that events for the inauguration had fully started, so all activities, everything is on top gear, we truly, truly are not worried about it”.

“It’s very, very clear that the judgement definitely will go in our way, I’m not trying to pre-empt the Supreme Court judges, of course there are several factors that come into play, when Supreme Court is issuing a judgement and one of them is the stability of the polity, looking at the environment, the stability of the country, its politics, of course, justice, and everything in between the case.

So, you just find people who come up with these ideas and the belief somehow, by whatever means they will get through with it but of course Nigeria is beyond all of those sentiments, Nigeria belongs to all of us and we must work together to ensure that,” she added.
