A civil society group, Free Nigeria Movement (FNM) yesterday, backed calls by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for immediate reversal of the petrol subsidy removal.

The group in a statement by its convener, Dr Moses Paul in Abuja threatened nationwide protests within the next seven days should the federal government fail to comply.

Moses who expressed concerns over the hardship the subsidy removal has on the vulnerable members of the society said its hasty enforcement will murder the dreams of many young Nigerians and ruin their hope.

According to him, the new government ought to have made palliatives available before embarking on subsidy removal, the development which he described as unsavoury pronouncement.

He said, “We frown at this unsavoury pronouncement of subsidy removal by the new government, which is essentially placing holding pending decision on all petitions at the Presidential Election Tribunal Court.

“We call for the immediate reversal of this pronouncement, the failure of which we shall begin national protests within the next seven days, as a group, the Free Nigeria Movement, will continue to demand for good governance, responsible leadership and insisting on a credible route to power”.

“We call on the NLC to remain steadfast standing with the poor people of Nigeria and never compromising their position. As always, we call on Nigerians to stand up to defend our country and our right to live with every inch of dignity in it.

This is the only country we have. We will defend it with every stretch of our being standing on the law. This is the only way that Nigeria can stand for the good of all, as always, let Nigeria win”, he added.
