Obasa, the most ranking member of the House who by this feat has created a new record as the longest serving member and speaker in the anal of the state’s Assembly having been in the House since 2007 was nominated by Hon. Temitope Adewale, who was seconded by Hon.Sylvester Ogunkelu.

The lawmakers also elected Mojisola Lasbat Meranda as the deputy speaker.

Noheem Adams, the deputy majority leader in the ninth Assembly, was elected as the new majority leader while Hon. Adedamola Kasunmu was elected the deputy majority leader.

Mojeed Fatai of Ibeju Lekki 1 was elected as the chief whip while Hon. David Setonji was elected the deputy chief whip.

Earlier, Sanwo-Olu, who inaugurated the 10th Assembly, said he had no preferred candidate for the speakership position.

“As we inaugurate this Assembly today, you will also be conducting the election of the speaker and other principal officers, a constitutional function that further demonstrates the strength of our democratic values. It is a significant event, reminding us that the principles of fairness, respect for majority rule, and protection of the rights of the minority are the bedrock of our democracy.

“I want to assure you all that as your governor, I stand neutral in the selection process. My interest lies in how we can work together, irrespective of who assumes what role, to fulfil our shared responsibilities to the people of Lagos State. Each one of you, regardless of position, brings unique value and perspective to this Assembly, and it is through our collective efforts that we will achieve the extraordinary.”
