The PFN scribe gave the charge while speaking to Journalists in Calabar, the Cross River State capital on Monday, on the historic June 12 Democracy Day.

Speaking on the theme, “Responsibilities of Citizens to their Newly Elected Leaders: Democracy Day Edition,” the cleric enumerated five cardinal responsibilities of citizens owed their leaders to include prayers for those in authority to enable them accomplish the expected mandate.

Other citizens’ responsibilities which the preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ of Nazareth mentioned included keeping faith with the social contract and being patient, avoiding murmuring, quick judgement and social media criticisms so that those in palaces of authority would not be confused.

While calling for all hands to be on deck in order to tackle the insecurity situation plaquing Nigeria, stressed that security is one of those aspects of the nation which requires collective responsibility.

In his words Isong said, “Security of lives and property are paramount, if you see something, say something,” stressing that nations only thrive in a safe and peaceful atmosphere that is devoid of ethno-religious rancour, and where there is social harmony.

Isong, who is the founder and General Overseer of Christian Central Chapel Int’l (CCCI), Faith Mansion World headquarters Ikot Ene-Obong, 8 Miles, Calabar, called on Nigerians to be law law-abiding, support the nation’s leaders, obedient to the law and stay away from crime.

While drawing an inference from Abraham Lincoln’s axiomatic postulation of “Democracy is the government of the people, by the people and for the people,” Isong said government is for the people, calling on all to support those in power to succeed.

He advocated for maintenance of clean and green environment in order to make our environment look healthy for the people, stressing that with clean and healthy environment, Cross River and the nation at large were sure of attracting tourists into the state to boost our foreign reserve.
