Nemesis caught up with a man who tried to steal transformer cable belonging to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), as he was electrocuted when electricity supply was restored to the equipment on Wednesday night. The incident occurred at Paparanda Square, Lokoja, around 2 am.

According to an eyewitness who pleaded anonymity, the vandal was cutting the transformer cable and suddenly, electricity supply was restored to the area.

The eyewitness who spoke to journalists at the scene of the incident disclosed this on Thursday morning.

The eyewitness who also claimed he knew the victim said he was an indigene of Lokoja from Angwan- Masara Street.

AEDC senior staff who was at the scene, but did not want his name in print, told LEADERSHIP Friday that, “This is why we always appeal to our consumers to protect their transformers.

“If the vandal had made away with the cable, the whole area would have been plunged into darkness for days.

“The AEDC has been spending a lot of money on repair of vandalised equipment and stolen cables.

“If all our installations are well secured, this money would have been spent on buying new equipment and ensuring regular power supply,” he said.

Meanwhile, the corpse had been handed over to the police and taken to an undisclosed mortuary.
