Our correspondent gathered that the terrorists stormed Kofa village at midnight and started shooting until an hour into the early hours of Friday.

The terrorists, according to credible intelligence sources, equally attacked Molai Kura and Molai Gana where they massacred some people as many residents fled their homes to the nearby bush.

A Commander of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in the area, Bukar Ali Musty, said the farmers killed among the civilians were working on their farmlands when the terrorists struck.

“The farmers were working on their farmlands near Molai, on the outskirts of Maiduguri on Thursday when the insurgents attacked and beheaded them.

“At least 15 bodies were evacuated this morning (Friday), the attacks took place yesterday (Thursday). Seven farmers were beheaded while working on their farmlands and the attackers also slit the throats of eight other harmless civilians in their homes,” he said.

Another civilian JTF source, who was part of the evacuation team, raised concerns over the attacks, saying all stakeholders must wake up to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

“It was a sad development considering the progress that we have made in the months without any attack on communities.

“I was there this morning. I can’t imagine seeing my fellow human beings slaughtered like a ram. All those bodies that we recovered were found in the pool of blood and I think we all need to rise to tame these enemies of peace,” the source added.

Our correspondent reports that farming season and harvesting period have become notorious as the terrorists usually attack farmers on their farmlands and at times loot farm produce to reduce rising hunger in their enclaves.
