The Chief Executive Officer of the Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS) emphasized the need for the private sector and government to prioritize and strengthen the nation’s education sector. Speaking at the organization’s 22nd anniversary in Abuja, Andy Eyo highlighted the significance of education in propelling Nigeria’s advancement.

Andy Eyo, CEO of ECEWS, stressed the importance of investing more in education, citing the alarming number of out-of-school children. Drawing from his experience working with the Oando Foundation in Bayelsa and Rivers states, he revealed that approximately 2000 children in Nigeria lack access to education.

According to Andy Eyo, Nigeria’s national budget for education falls below the required standard. He urged the government to allocate more resources to ensure proper learning environments, quality teaching aids, and teacher incentives. Additionally, he emphasized the need for instigating new leadership at the local level to enhance the education sector.

Contrary to common perception, Andy Eyo emphasized that the issue of out-of-school children extends beyond the northern region of Nigeria. He revealed that thousands of children in the southern part of the country also face educational challenges. ECEWS, as an organization, stands ready to support government initiatives and works closely with donor agencies.

Andy Eyo highlighted the importance of investing significant resources in improving school infrastructure and creating a conducive learning environment. While acknowledging the positive impact of school feeding programs, he emphasized the need for better management to ensure that hunger does not hinder children’s education. Furthermore, he commended the student loans scheme while raising concerns about employment opportunities and the ability of graduates to repay their loans.
