A former governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim has denied a news report of his alleged revolt against the current state governor, senator Hope Uzodimma, saying it was a calculated attempt to discredit him.

A national daily not LEADERSHIP had yesterday reported that Ohakim was in connivance with some people to oust Uzodimma from office.

However, in a statement which he personally signed, Ohakim denied the allegations saying it was the figment of the reporter’s mind.

He said contrary to the report, he was not bidding for ministerial position and had not visited Anambra state, the purported venue of the meeting for four years running.

According to him, “securing such a position was not attained “through leading or participating in a revolt against a sitting governor or anybody whatsoever. Besides, ministerial positions are not bided for neither are they contested for.”

On allegations of a dying political career, the former governor dismissed the claim even as he maintained that since 1979, he had served as commissioner, chairman of boards, party executive and governor, noting that “At the risk of sounding immodest, I can state without any fear of contradiction that it is not possible to draw a list of one hundred successful Nigerians, in a country of more than 200 million people and Ikedi Ohakim is not there”.

He said the statement may be the last time he responded to lies peddled against him, saying “this will perhaps be my last open reaction to their shenanigans. Next time, we shall meet in Philippi.”
