Vigilantes have arrested two suspected vandals of feeder line and high-tension wire which threw 50 communities in Niger State into darkness.

The worst hit communities are Takuti Barugu, Tunga Mallam Para and Bakajeba in Lapai and Paikoro local government areas of the state.

LEADERSHIP Friday gathered that the vandalization of the lines has thrown no fewer than 50 communities in darkness and has made the officials of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC to transfer their staff from Lapai office.

It was learnt that Tunga Mallam Para to Bakajeba lines was vandalized a few weeks ago and another vandalization of the feeder line, and high-tension wire at Takuti Barugu road took place yesterday.

It was also learned that the activities of the vandals have thrown the state-owned IBB University into darkness.

A resident of Lapai, Suleiman Ibrahim told LEADERSHIP Friday that, “this is the 28th time this year and 63 times in total that the lines were vandalized.”

He however confirmed that “although this time around luck was not by their side as they were arrested by our gallant vigilante officers and handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.”

A member of the Vigilante Corp who prefers anonymity confirmed the arrest but an attempt to get the police reaction proved abortive as the spokesperson of the state police command Wasiu Abiodun could not be reached at press time.
